40 Celebrity Couples You Probably Thought Were Married
While news of a celebrity engagement or wedding breaks almost every day, there are actually *a lot* of famous couples who've decided marriage just isn't for them. From longtime partners to the perpetually engaged, if you're like me, you assumed these A-list duos were married. Surprise! They're not. From Kurt and Goldie to Eva and Ryan, prepare to be shook.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together since 1983, have one son, and raised Goldie's children from her previous marriage (Oliver and Kate Hudson!) together. "We have done just perfectly without marrying," Goldie told Woman's Day in 2007. "I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry."
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham
After meeting in 1986 and getting engaged in 1993, Oprah and Stedman refer to their relationship as a "spiritual partnership." "The moment after I said yes to his proposal, I had doubts. I realized I didn't actually want a marriage. I wanted to be asked," Oprah wrote in a column for O, The Oprah Magazine. "He and I agree that had we tied the marital knot, we would not still be together."
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling
The notoriously private couple met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011, and have opted to quietly raise their daughters as partners. Eva told Women's Health in 2019 that she hadn't even thought about having children before meeting Ryan. "I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have... not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him," she said.
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis announced their split in 2020, and when many heard the news, they were shocked the couple wasn't married. Same! The actors had a seven-year engagement and two children, who they're currently co-parenting.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are not only the creative geniuses behind fashion house Proenza Schouler, they've been together since their junior year at Parsons School of Design. While they've successfully collaborated on the runway, they aren't married. Lazaro responded with a simple "no comment" when asked when the couple will tie the knot at "The Atelier with Alina Cho" speaker series at The Met.
Shakira and Gerard Piqué
The Colombian singer and Spanish soccer star met on the set of her "Waka Waka" music video in 2010 and have been together ever since, but they aren't eager to get married. "We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them," Shakira told Glamour in 2014. "But if I'm ever going to get married, he's the one."
Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson
The Bridesmaids star has been in a relationship with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001. They have four children and Maya refers to Paul as her husband, but they just never made it official. Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell
After meeting at Chateau Marmont in 2007 and more than 10 years together, Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell are happy with the way things are—being unmarried. The secret to their strong relationship? "We have a two-to-three-week rule and then we see each other," Sam told Us Weekly in 2018. "Then you get too independent if it's four weeks, five weeks."
Bo Derek and John Corbett
The Sex and the City star and '70s icon have happily made their relationship work since 2002 and don't need rings to prove it. "I think when you’re beginning a young family and you're going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it's obviously a wonderful commitment and it's meaningful," Bo told Fox News on marriage. "But for us in our lives, it hasn't been yet."

The real reason Lauren Graham and Peter Krause haven't gotten married? No, it's not because they were TV siblings on Parenthood. They're just happy with how things are. Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson
If you thought Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson were married during their 10-year relationship, you're not alone. I'd filed them away in the marriage folder in my brain before hearing the news of their 2016 split. Apparently, after her divorce from French actor Guillaume Canet, Diane stood firm against the notions of marriage. "Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage," she told Glamour. "I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay."

Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have been together since 2015 and consider themselves in a committed partnership. Sarah told Harper's Bazaar she credits this to "our own ageist thinking and the idea that to be old is to cease to have any desire."
Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid
Despite being engaged at one point, the actress and Snow Patrol musician have decided to remain longterm partners. "He's not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we're just together," Courteney said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham
It's easy to forget that the British model and action star aren't married, considering they've been together since 2010, got engaged in 2016, and have a son. But they're in no rush. "We definitely talk about it. We're looking forward to that time. It's also not a huge priority for us; we're so happy. I think it will be fun to do it when the baby's grown up a bit and he can be involved in the wedding," Rosie told Extra in 2018.
