Sep. 10—The New Mexico State Fair is back in season and runs through Sept. 15. The state fair is full of creative, fried foods to try. Here is a list of five fried foods you can try at the state fair.
1) Fried Moon Pie
Moon Pies consist of two graham crackers coated in chocolate with fluffy marshmallow filling in between. Dip that in to fry, and you have a warm and gooey Moon Pie dripping with marshmallow and warm chocolate.
2) Fried Cheese Curds
Fried cheese curds are made using curdled milk. After frying them, the cheese curds are small and warm snack bites of delicious cheese filling. You can hear the crack and crunch from the fry batter as you bite in and have a mouthful of delicious cheese.
3) Deep Fried Cheeseburger
Cheeseburgers are a classic meal and the NM state fair elevates it to the next level by dipping it in batter, frying it and topping it with powdered sugar. Split the burger in half to hear the crunch of the fried bun bread and watch the hot cheese melt down the burger.
4) Frybread
Visit the Indian Village to get a taste of homemade frybread. Flat dough bread is fried to create a fluffy, warm bread. Frybread is also used for Indian tacos so if you don't want the bread plain, try it topped with ground beef and vegetables.
5) Deep Fried Philly Cheesesteak
Thin slices of beefsteak and melted cheese on a slice of hoagie bread topped with onions and bell peppers make a cheesesteak. Submerging the sandwich in hot oil and batter fries it, making a toasted bread and cheese that melt over the vegetables for a warm and gooey sandwich.
