5-year-old saw there was no library in his town, so he started one
When 5-year-old Logan Brinson and his family moved to the small village of Alpha, Ill., the town had no library. So Logan decided to open his own.
“We moved here in August of 2017, and one of the first things we noticed was the local village didn’t have a library,” Logan’s dad, Brandon, told local news channel WQAD 8. Logan was determined to change that.
Along with his parents, Logan went to town officials to get permission to open a lending library in the Brinson family’s front yard. With permission granted, Logan’s Little Library opened in the summer of 2018. It immediately became a hot spot for the village of fewer than 700 people.
In a local news report, Logan explained the rules of his library, which looks like a tiny house, saying, “You would have to open this and take one of the books out — only one. And then you have to close this back up, and then you have to bring it back another day.” The library is stocked with children’s books.
His library is so popular that Logan is opening another one this May in the town center, right next to the town gazebo.
Logan’s Little Library is now world famous and has received book donations from as far away as Australia. All donations can be mailed to:
