6 Reasons You’re About to be Obsessed with J.Crew Again

It’s not easy to get New York fashion types jazzed about going to their umpteenth show of fashion week — especially not when said show falls on the weekend, on Valentine’s Day, and when temps are so low, the mayor actually told us we should all probably stay home. But even reluctant show-goers found themselves completely won over by J.Crew’s Fall/Winter 2016 presentation.
Energized by last year’s appointment of former Madewell head designer Somsack Sikhounmuong, today the brand showed a truly charming collection of chunky-knit sweaters, exaggerated-proportion pants, ladylike skirts, and standout statement coats — like the furry pink one above that’s already landed on many editors’ fall “want” lists.
It’s a piece that’s forward-thinking, a little cheeky, and instantly covetable. Most importantly, it defies the oft-repeated criticism that Crew needs to get “back to basics” to recapture the middle-American market wary of the brand’s more directional pieces. Lucky for us, Sikhounmuong and creative director Jenna Lyons seem committed to keeping their J.Crew fashion-forward and a little bit weird.

J.Crew shows are a master class in color, print, and texture-mixing. We’re taking notes on the model at right’s mix of tweed, chunky knit wool, satin, and velvet.

Every piece here benefits from unexpected, forward-thinking details. The new coat is extra-long. The cotton shirt now comes with a Miu Miu-esque bib of ruffles.
