6 Things to Know About Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's Family Ahead of His Wedding to Princess Beatrice
It's official: Princess Beatrice and her fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have tied the knot! The couple wed this morning in an intimate ceremony in Windsor.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the happy news with a statement:
The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11am on Friday 17th July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant Government Guidelines.
While they have yet to release a statement about the nuptials, Mapelli Mozzi's family was "delighted" at the news of Edo and Beatrice's enagagement last fall.
"We are truly delighted about Edoardo and Beatrice’s engagement," Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi said in an official statement following their engagement announcement.
"Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see. They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship."
Here's what else we know so far about Beatrice's in-laws.
Edo is the son of Alessandro "Alex" Mapelli Mozzi and Nikki Williams-Ellis.
Much like Beatrice's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Edo's parents are divorced. Following the end of her marriage to Edo's father, Nikki married Christopher Shale, a close friend of former prime minister David Cameron. They were together until Shale's untimely death in 2011. In 2017, she married sculptor David Williams-Ellis, and her son shared his best wishes for their wedding day on Instagram.
" I am over the moon for you both," he wrote.
His family reportedly has ties to the Italian aristocracy.
Edo's father holds both British and Italian citizenship, but he cannot officially use his reported Italian title in the UK (hence why it was not included in the official statement announcing the engagement).
He's also a former Olympian, having competed for the U.K. in multiple skiing events at the 1972 Winter Olympics.
In 2016, his mother was awarded an MBE or Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Edo celebrated the moment on Instagram:
They've been close with Beatrice's family for years.
As Edo's parents' statement about the engagement attests, they've "known Beatrice for most of her life."
Notably, when Christopher Shale passed away at the Glastonbury music festival in 2011, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson attended his funeral—as did Beatrice.
Edo has two siblings.
He has an older sister, Natalia Alice Yeomans, and a younger half-brother from his mother's second marriage named Alby Shale. At this point, it's unclear if they played a role in the wedding celebration.
He also has a son from a previous relationship.
Prior to dating Princess Beatrice, Mozzi was in a longterm relationship with architect and designer Dara Huang. In 2016, the couple welcomed their first child, Christopher Woolf "Wolfie" Mapelli Mozzi. While Mozzi and Huang broke up in the years that followed their son's birth, they appear to have a good relationship.
"I wish the best for Edo and Beatrice and look forward to uniting our families," she said in an interview with the Daily Mail, shortly after the royal engagement was announced.
For the most part, they have kept their son off of social media, but back in 2016 Mozzi posted this sweet snap on Instagram.
