ABBA Has 2 New Songs!
Variety has some news that will make your Friday. After unofficially splitting in 1982, ABBA, the dynamic, peak '70s quad, is getting back together-and releasing two new songs. And somehow, American Idol mogul Simon Fuller is involved with all this.
In 2016, it was announced that Fuller was working on a Virtual ABBA experience-that is, hyper-realistic digital humans based on the group from the '70s. Or, uh, holograms. ABBA-Agnetha F?ltskog, Bj?rn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad-was on board. "We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here-a time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are,” Andersson said at the time.
It turned out, working on the project got the group feeling all the feelings. "The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did," the band said in a statement. "And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good."
Today, we're one step closer to dancing with avatar ABBA. The group will debut the song “I Still Have Faith in You,” in December on ABC and NBC. Details are still outstanding on the second song; a virtual reality tour-whatever that means-will begin in 2019.
In 2016, ABBA appeared onstage together in Stockholm at a party for Mamma Mia, the musical based on their oeuvre.
