Adrienne Houghton reveals that she's working on her biggest body insecurity: 'I never show my arms'
A former Cheetah Girl is feeling less-than-confident in her own skin.
Adrienne Houghton, who cohosted the recently canceled daytime talk show The Real alongside Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Garcelle Beauvais, took to her Instagram on Tuesday to share a new episode of her series All Things Adrienne.
“I feel like I’ve always been really open and honest with you guys about my own self-love journey, especially when it comes to body confidence,” Houghton explained in the video. “I feel like it’s something I talk about so often on The Real, about the struggles I’ve had about my own body confidence, my own self-love. I really feel like my perspective has shifted so much, and I wanted to talk to you and hopefully encourage you guys and make you feel not alone if you have the same thoughts, or inspire you to change the way you think as well.”
The Cheetah Girls alum shared that she is often “super critical” of herself, and that she harshly judges her appearance in the videos she posts on social media.
“I’m like, ‘I don’t like that shot. I have a double chin in that shot. Don’t shoot me from that angle,’” she continued. “We recently did an episode where Lana and I played ‘Would You Rather.’ If I’m being honest, when I saw that video, I was like, ‘Why are my arms out?’ If you’ve ever noticed, try to find a video where I’m on the thicky-thick side with my arms out — it doesn’t happen, I never show my arms. But that day, I was like, ‘Who cares?’ That’s what made me want to shoot this video.”
This isn’t the first time Houghton has spoken about feeling insecure about her arms. In a 2019 interview with Hola! US, she said that she used to always keep her arms hidden while filming The Real.
“I went seasons without showing my arms because that was something I was really self-conscious about,” she shared at the time. “It’s something that I am working on. I would always wear long sleeves. Now, we’re finding really cute things that just cover that one little area of arm-cleavage, and it’s been groundbreaking for my wardrobe.”
The talk show host received lots of praise for her candor in the comments section. One follower wrote, “Man needed this. So did my daughter. She’s 11!!!!!! Thank you for your vulnerability!” Another added, “This was definitely one of my favorite episodes, shows a very authentic side of @adriennebailon and it was relatable for ALL women young & older.”
On Wednesday, Houghton shared a bathroom-mirror selfie along with another tip about body confidence.
“Another self love tip,” she captioned her post. “Stare into the mirror after you take a shower and learn to love what you see. I swear it makes all the difference.”
