The Airbnb Host Mad Over His Guest's Showering Habits Is So Wrong
This weekend, the internet went wild (what else is new) over a story about a certain Airbnb guest and what some deemed were his ~unacceptable~ habits. Like most good internet wars, this one began on the Reddit forum AITA, short for "Am I the A**hole." In this particular post, a 26-year old male wondered if he ITA for...having a preferred shower schedule.
As the poster tells it, he arrived to a shared Airbnb listing tired from a long flight and proceeded, like many would, to fall asleep. In the morning, he awoke to a note by his bed from the Airbnb host. It read:
"Hi, this might be your first time doing Airbnb so you should understand a few standard etiquettes. Airbnb is hosting so it is very different from a hotel or motel. You need to keep the room clean and free of odor because you are staying in someone else’s room. After your flight, you had a strong odor yet you didn’t take a shower before going to bed. As the owner of the room, the bed and the sheets, I am extremely displeased with this fact."
The host went on to threaten that she might "have to" report her guest to Airbnb for...not showering at a time she thought suitable. The poster, Jack, even provided an image of the note in question as evidence.
Well, Jack, we are here to say, in what is a rare case on the AITA forum, you are, in fact, indisputably NOT the asshole. Congratulations. Clara, however, should do some apologizing. You see, in chastising Jack for his cleanliness, Clara effectively revealed that she in fact, is the dirty one. Why? Because there is a V E R Y simple way to rid your (guest) sheets of dirtiness. It's called washing them.
Clara is renting out her spare bedroom to a stranger for some extra cash and she has the audacity to be angry that, what, she might have to launder the sheets after he leaves? Is this not something she normally does? Gross. She claims that Jack is "lowering the quality of her room"—we are hard-pressed to believe that Jack's personal stench was enough to leave an impression after he had checked out.
Maybe it's time Clara bought some new sheets (we can help with that).
