These Airport Nap Pods Are Like Tiny Hotel Rooms for Tired Travelers
Everything's better when naps are included, especially while traveling.
A brand new micro-hotel is opening up at Washington Dulles International Airport just in time for busy holiday travelers with long layovers, according to USA Today.
Sleepbox Nap Lounge, located in Concourse A, is a little like those privacy pods that have been popping up in airports all over the country, except it’s better because you can actually rest at the micro-hotel. Weary travelers will be able to sleep on a memory foam bed in a soundproof room, plus have access to power outlets and wireless entertainment, making it a great place to recharge yourself and your devices at the same time.
“We believe that the opportunity to relax and recharge in the midst of our busy lives is a valuable asset,” Mikhail Krymov, Sleepbox CEO and founder, said on the company blog. “We are thrilled to have won this prestigious contract and look forward to joining the Dulles Airport community.”
One tiny drawback, however, is that Sleepbox Hotels do not offer private bathrooms or showers.
The rooms themselves are about 30 square feet each for a compact suite with eight foot ceilings – so they feel anything but cramped. A larger “standard” room is slightly bigger, at 45 square feet, USA Today reported. All in all, the upcoming micro-hotel will have 16 rooms available for booking.
Compact rooms will cost a rate of $25 per hour, while standard rooms will cost $35 per hour. But besides being a quiet, cozy and affordable place to rest, Sleepbox Hotels allow for flexible check-in so you can choose when to come and go. And if you are on an especially long layover, you can also book a room for 12 hours for between $120 and $150 for the stay.
According to USA Today, Washington Dulles will be the first U.S. hotel to offer a Sleepbox hotel, but there are more on the way, including a flagship Boston location.
Travelers passing through Washington D.C., will have the opportunity to book rooms through the Sleepbox app starting December 7.
