Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is going back to bartending for a special cause: 'I'll have a mojito with a twist of impeachment'
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking a break from shaking up Congress in order to shake up some cocktails.
The freshman congresswoman, who was famously working as a bartender before being elected to Congress last year, has confirmed that she’ll be back behind the bar this week.
On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez will whip up drinks at a Queens restaurant in her district in support of the Raise the Wage Act movement. The event, organized by Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC) United, hopes to generate awareness about the need to increase the minimum wage for tipped workers.
The 29-year-old Democrat shared her bartending plans on Twitter, taking a jab at the “silver-spoon classists” who have mocked her former job. Among them is Donald Trump, who wrote her off as a “young bartender” while dismissing her Green New Deal in a speech last month.
To the silver spoon classists saying they’re going to “make AOC bartend again”:
You’re in luck! I’ll be bartending in NY-14 this week to promote a national living wage.
So there you have it, ya bunch of milk drinkers🍼😉 Let’s see if my margarita+mocktail game is still on point https://t.co/zO7YBA0LCL— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 29, 2019
And while her new career involves weeding through finance regulations and discussing climate change, Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t completely lost her bartending touch. She lobbied followers to “abolish” using sour mix in their cocktails, and shared one of her go-to recipes.
Use real citrus juice for your sours, people!
You deserve so much better than what you’re settling for 😭— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 29, 2019
A Garibaldi/Garibaldi spritz is an underrated brunch cocktail.
(For those reading: it’s a Campari&OJ. Pull back on the Campari so it’s not too “woof.” For the spritz, add prosecco or sparkling water, depending on how forward you want it.
Mocktail: replace Campari w/ pom juice!)— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 29, 2019
Her supporters are cheering her on — and tossing in some jokes at her conservative critics’ expense.
@AOC serving up conservative tears...
Let's cheers to that. 🍻— Angela Belcamino (@AngelaBelcamino) May 29, 2019
I'll have a mojito with a twist of impeachment, please.

I learned more tending bar than from anything else I ever did- and it paid for college and my bills - keep going

Though her stretch as a bartender has been derided by political opponents, Ocasio-Cortez has expressed pride in her work.
“There is nothing wrong with being a working person in the United States of America,” she said in an April speech.
