Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams 'card-carrying and flag-waving racists'
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t mincing her words after her likening of migrant detention centers to concentration camps sparked fierce debate.
Though a new report has highlighted the bleak conditions at holding centers, the New York Congresswoman’s remarks were criticized by conservatives such as Rep. Liz Cheney, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Steve King.
King, an Iowa Republican who has been at the center of several controversies involving white nationalist rhetoric, suggested that Ocasio-Cortez visit Auschwitz to avoid comparisons to death camps.
.@AOC I went to Auschwitz & Birkenau with Eddie Mausberg & Jonny Daniels with In the Depths. I went with a deep understanding of the Shoah and had a profound personal experience. Please accept their offer. https://t.co/9tjqgdP6N5

She wasted no time in rebuffing the offer, noting that King lost his House committee assignments earlier this year after questioning why it was “offensive” to have a "white nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization.”
In a second tweet, she cited reports that, during his trip to Auschwitz last year, King met with a group founded by a former Nazi officer.
Mr. King, the Republican Party literally stripped you of your Congressional committee assignments because you were too racist even for them.
My Jewish constituents have made clear to me that they proudly stand w/ caged children who are starved, denied sleep & sanitation.
Bye 👋🏽 https://t.co/TQkaPEESoD— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 23, 2019
The last time you went on this trip it was reported that you also met w/ fringe Austrian neo-Nazi groups to talk shop.
So I’m going to have to decline your invite. But thank you for revealing to all how transparently the far-right manipulates these moments for political gain. https://t.co/TQkaPEESoD— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 23, 2019
She went on to blast what she called “completely certified, card-carrying and flag-waving racists.”
“They can take their little tiki torches somewhere else,” she added, referencing the tiki torches that appeared during a white nationalist protest in Charlottesville in 2017.
I have absolutely zero patience for completely certified, card-carrying and flag-waving racists. None. 🚫
They can take their little tiki torches somewhere else.
We don’t give them an inch, a second, a sliver of sunlight nor the time of day. And neither should you.— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 23, 2019
Ocasio-Cortez’s tweets — the last of which has more than 158,000 likes — drew both outcry and praise.
One right-wing commentator reacted by accusing her of being an “America-hating, privileged loon,” while another critic mocked her past career as a bartender. Some also took her “flag-waving” line to be a dig at anyone waving the American flag, which one supporter tried to dispel.
I have absolutely zero patience for completely certified, card-carrying and flag-waving America-hating, privileged loons like you. Especially those who say they have a degree in economics and continue to sound like a 3rd grader on the subject. #Clueless pic.twitter.com/adtcDzGNFi

Love how Republicans claim to venerate “hard working Americans” and yet when one of them works so hard she makes it all the way to Congress, suddenly she’s demeaned for where she comes from.

Awfully defensive there bud. Especially considering she explicitly states that she's calling out people that are explicitly facist.

I have absolutely zero patience for completely certified, card-carrying and hand-wringing socialists. None. 🚫
They can take their little Green New Deal somewhere else.

Calling racism bad is a stunning act of bravery

No REAL American is PRO Racism.
In fact,
We hate it!
However,
Patriotism is NOT Racism....disagreeing with you is NOT Racism...being ANTI abortion, illegal immigration, and PRO America is NOT Racism.
Make sure you aren’t just throwing that word around because you want to.— Graham Allen (@GrahamAllen_1) June 23, 2019
Others cheered her on and joined her in slamming racists.
I want to live long enough to see you elected President.

We fought a costly war to defeat the scourge of Nazism. The brave soldiers who gave their lives to defeat them must be rolling in their graves at what is happening here.
The very LEAST we can do is keep fighting to push Nazis back under their racist rocks.— BrooklynDad_Defiant! (@mmpadellan) June 23, 2019
@AOC, the resolve we need in these trying times and the hope we need to lead us into the future.
Racists, go eff yourselves. 🚫— Angela Belcamino (@AngelaBelcamino) June 23, 2019
With you 110%, so proud to have my fellow New Yorker representing us. Rock on Congresswoman!
