Alicia Vikander's 'Tomb Raider' diet and workouts are for badasses only
Alicia Vikander revived the Tomb Raider franchise and got seriously toned for the role. Before training for the film, she said that she had always been “petite.” The Oscar winner and former ballet dancer admits it wasn’t easy to get in badass female action-hero shape.
Vikander added 12 pounds of muscle to play the action-movie heroine in the new reboot of Tomb Raider, a role previously played by Angelina Jolie in the 2001 and 2003 movies. How did she do it? We have some answers in this week’s episode of Off Season.

She followed an intense exercise routine and strict diet to get ripped for the role. What’s so great about Vikander’s workouts is you can do most of them at home. Her trainer, Magnus Lygdback, has shared footage of her performing pull-ups and pushups, and running.
“It’s anything you can do with your own body weight. It’s great. And you can do it anywhere, so there’s no excuses,” Vikander told the Project.
Vikander gained 12 pounds of muscle for the role, so her fitness routine seems to be working for her and her six-pack.
“I’m quite petite, so I put on 12 pounds because I wanted to honor the fact that in the story she’s this very feminine young woman, but she has physical strength, so it’s plausible for you to believe that she can do what she does when she’s thrown out on this adventure,” Vikander told Yahoo Entertainment at the film’s Los Angeles press day.

For Vikander, it’s not all about working out though. It’s mostly about what you put into your body and she focused on a keto diet. Keto is a super-strict, high-fat, low-carb eating plan. The keto idea is that you when you go so low in carb intake, it forces your body to switch to burning fat.
“It’s 80 percent eating, like, fish, five times a day. That’s what I did. And a bowl of rice to go with it. Each meal,” Vikander revealed to the Project.
