Ally Sheedy tweeted -- then deleted -- a cryptic message about James Franco as he took the Golden Globes stage
As the Golden Globes rolled on Sunday night, Twitter was buzzing -- and not just about Oprah's speech.
Ally Sheedy, the actress best known for '80s hits like "The Breakfast Club" and "St. Elmo's Fire," tweeted -- then deleted -- multiple cryptic messages, mostly targeted at James Franco, who took home a statue for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The tweets seemingly suggested that she blames Franco for her departure from Hollywood.
"Why is James Franco allowed in?" she tweeted, adding, "Said too much."
She followed that up with two more posts. The first: "Ok wait. Bye. Christian Slater and James Franco at a table on @goldenglobes," hashtagging "#MeToo."
Around the time of her tweet, Christian Slater's name was already circulating on Twitter as some pointed out the apparent hypocrisy of him wearing a "Time's Up" pin, meant as a statement of solidarity against sexual harassment in abuse. The actor was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend in 1997 and in 2005 said he didn't regret any of his past behavior.
Finally, Sheedy capped off her short tweet spree with this: "James Franco just won. Please never ever ask me why I left the film/TV business."
She worked with Franco in 2014, when he directed her in the play "The Long Shrift."
Neither Sheedy nor Franco has publicly commented on the tweets, which Sheedy has since deleted.
