Amber Rose criticized for promoting detox tea for pregnant women: 'You're supposed to be a feminist'
Looks like Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian have something in common besides Kanye West.
Kardashian and her sisters have sparked outcry by running sponsored posts promoting detox teas, appetite suppressants and other weight-loss products. Now, Rose — who is pregnant with her second baby — is getting some backlash of her own after promoting Flat Tummy Co.’s Organic Pregnancy Tea on Instagram.
The 35-year-old model and TV personality bares her stomach in the ad, in which she praises the tea for helping “us moms with those bloated, nauseous, blah-feeling days.”
But such teas have been roundly reviled, with critics writing them off as ineffective and likely to cause stomach and digestion issues. Jameela Jamil has also slammed ads like Rose’s for promoting unhealthy narratives about body image.
Many of Rose’s followers agreed.
“Don’t promote this toxic crap,” read one comment.
“Another shameless ad for ‘magic tea’ perpetuating the need to have a flat tummy ... Now aimed at pregnant women!” added a commenter. “You're supposed to be a feminist. You have enough money. Seriously just stop.”
“Imagine drinking something called Flat Tummy when you're pregnant,” someone wrote. “Oh, lord... “
“I love you so much and I truly hope you researched this product (as well as the other ‘detox’ teas celebs promote),” a fan wrote. “What you promote truly influences people. I would hate for a pregnant woman to buy this product and be hurt so you could get an easy check. Anyway, you look beautiful as always. I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.”
“A laxative tea for pregnant women?” read another comment. “Girl you do not need the money that bad. This is just wrong.”
