Amiri and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro Launch Quirky New Sneaker That Merges L.A. Flair and Tokyo Craft
Amiri and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro have teamed up on a limited-edition sneaker that merges both brands’ distinctive identities.
The bold new shoe is an amalgam of Amiri’s Skel Top-Low and the Japanese brand’s equally quirky OG ‘Peterson’ Sole sneakers. Taking design notes from both houses, the hybrid sneaker features a canvas upper emblazoned with Amiri’s skeleton-inspired ‘bones’ appliqué in Nappa leather and Yasuhiro’s avant-garde ‘original sole,’ modeled by hand using clay. “The result is a design that bridges Amiri’s Hollywood with Mihara Yasuhiro’s Tokyo, united by a dedication to craftsmanship and excellence,” the Japanese brand said in a statement about the collaboration.

Co-branded woven labels on the tongue and heel complete the eye-catching sneaker, coming in two colorways. Offered in white with black accents and the other way around, the style is now available to shop globally via Amiri Stoes and exclusively at Maison Mihara Yasuhiro stores in Japan. A limited release will make these hard to cop, though.
To celebrate the new shoe, a moody black-and-white campaign imagery draws inspiration from Hollywood films and Japanese cult classics, with a direct nod to director Takeshi Kitano’s 2000 film “Brother.” Set against mysterious backdrops, models can be seen posing in tailored Amiri suits that serve as a contrast to the playful, skate-influenced sneakers.
This collaboration comes just weeks after Mihara Yasuhiro showcased his take on Italian sneaker brand Autry’s signature best-selling Medalist model at his Paris Fashion Week show on Jan. 24. As reported, the partnership saw Yasuhiro fuse his clay-like sole with Autry’s Medalist upper. In addition to sneakers, the Japanese designer sent outrageous quilted booties inspired by Chanel bags down the runway.
Maison Mihara Yasuhiro founded his namesake brand in 1997 and is no stranger to collaborations, having linked with sportswear brands like Puma and DC Shoes in the past. Meanwhile, Mike Amiri launched his eponymous label out of Los Angeles in 2014. The American designer got his start creating custom stage pieces for famous rock stars like Axl Rose and Steven Tyler. Justin Bieber, Travis Kelce, Barry Keoghan, and Jared Leto are all fans of the brand. Notably, Kelce donned a custom Amiri outfit to Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
