Andy Cohen Gets Candid About His Single Parent Self-Doubt & His Worries Are Universally Valid

Andy Cohen is the proud dad of the cutest little kiddos, Ben, 5 and Lucy, 2. And while he is quick to share so many of the highs of parenting (much to our delight!) and the beyond-frustrating moments (ditto!), he’s now opening up about all the worries that come with being a parent too.

During an appearance on David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast, Cohen said fatherhood has transported him into “a whole world of worry [he] never had.”

“I told you earlier that I wasn’t someone that had a lot of self-doubt,” the Bravo star said, per People. “But, I mean, this will do it to you — being a parent. You start to question everything, especially as a single parent.”

And he means everything. Cohen has an entire laundry list of questions that “keep him up at night.”

“Everything from ‘What kind of world am I bringing my child into’ to ‘what’s gonna happen to us?’ ‘What happens if something happens to me?’ ‘Are they gonna be okay?'”

It’s a painful list of questions that all parents run through. All parents and caregivers have these worries and have moments of doubt. There’s no easy answer to those questions, but perhaps it will ease your mind just a little bit to know that we think you’re doing a fantastic job raising your cuties on your own, Cohen.

Duchovny went on to mention Cohen’s previous statements about wanting Ben and Lucy to know there are other single, gay parents, and that sentiment still rings true.

“You don’t want to feel alone,” Cohen said. “You don’t wanna feel like, ‘Oh … I’m the only one without a mom, or I’m the only one without two dads, or a mom and a dad, whatever.'”

“And they don’t, I have to say,” he continued. “There are other single parents that they know, and there’s a lot of gay dads in their lives, so they see.”

Cohen’s BFF Anderson Cooper is one of them, and he’s grateful their kids have each other.

Two years ago, Cohen said on Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi that he thinks it will be “really interesting” to see when his and Cooper’s kids “start realizing more and more ‘Oh I have gay dads.’” Well, when speaking to Duchovny, Cohen shared that Ben already has a keen gaydar.

“A year or two ago, my son said, he was like, ‘I want another daddy.’ And I thought it was so interesting that he knew that if someone else came into this family, it was gonna be a daddy.”

“I was like, ‘I read that gay to you?'” he joked.
