While Alexis Rose may have had her fair share of romantic escapades throughout the six seasons of Schitt's Creek, actress Annie Murphy has remained committed to her real-life husband of 10 years, Menno Versteeg.

Though Annie, 34, and Menno, 36, keep things private for the most part, we do know some details about their relationship, including the fact that the two have been married since August 20, 2011. We also know that Menno is an accomplished Canadian musician. Per Elle, he and his former band, Hollerado, released their first album back in 2009. While the band would eventually call it quits, Menno has since moved on to join the group Anyway Gang to create more new music.

While Menno played with Hollerado, the guitarist and singer told Elle that Annie "was a struggling actress" for the first half of the band's run. For much of that time, Annie found herself traveling with the band, singing on stage with Menno and even penning lyrics.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck the couple hard in 2013 when a fire destroyed Annie and Menno's downtown Toronto apartment they were living in at the time. Luckily, Annie and Menno were unharmed in the incident, but the band did note that their place was "trashed."

It was undoubtedly a tough time for the couple. Annie called her life "quite bleak" when recalling that period of her life and career on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

"My house had just burned down," she explained. "I had, like, $3 in my bank account. I hadn't worked in close to two years, and I had just blown my very first screen test. Like, blown it, blown it, blown it, blown it."

She continued: "I found myself crying in the Pacific Ocean, a very snotty cry. And the universe was like, 'Don't do this anymore. This is not for you.' But then two days later I got the audition for Schitt's Creek."

As we all know, the universe had something amazing in store. Annie would go on to score the part of Alexis Rose, which resulted in a 2020 Emmy Award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

After Annie landed her job on Schitt's Creek, things undoubtedly got better for the couple. For starters, Menno was able to use his music talents to collaborate on Alexis's hit "A Little Bit Alexis" from season 5 of the Pop original series. In fact, he and his friend ended up writing the melody from the now-classic song.

What's more, in a 2019 profile in The Globe and Mail, Menno revealed that Annie's success from Schitt's Creek allowed him to seek mental healthcare, something he was unable to do in the past. After seeing how therapy helped him, he set up a mental-health fund for his record label Royal Mountain Records, which gives artists a $1,500 credit to use for mental health services to cope with the stress of touring and performing.

Today, Menno continues to work on his music. Meanwhile, Annie is currently starring in the new dark comedy Kevin Can F Himself. She also appears in season 2 of Netflix's Russian Doll alongside Natasha Lyonne.
