The 'Crazy Rich Asians' Trailer Is Bomb
Glittering jewels, luxury settings, glamorous socialites, plunging necklines, abs: Crazy Rich Asians has it all. The trailer for the forthcoming summer movie based on Kevin Kwan's hit novel has dropped, and it's doing as much as that one rich girl you went to high school with.
As we saw in the teaser, which lead actress Constance Wu shared last week, the film's glitz and glamour stems from regular-ass woman Rachel Chu (Wu) discovering that her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) is as rich as the gods. “We’ve been dating for over a year now, and I think it’s about time people met my beautiful girlfriend," he says. Which is all well and good, until she ventures to Singapore with him and realizes that his family are just the biggest developers in the whole country and that young, eligible, gorgeous, sparkling women are lining up to snatch him from under her nose. The "crazy" in the title? That modifies the "rich"-the Youngs are loaded.
The trailer also features Michelle Yeoh as Nick's imposing mom, Eleanor, who tells Rachel outright that she's not right for her son; rapper Awkwafina as Rachel's hilarious, straight-talking bestie, Peik Lin; Ken Jeong, as Peik Lin's father; and Chris Pang as Nick's best friend, Colin.
Crazy Rich Asians will come out on August 17.
