There's Going to Be a Follow-Up Show to ‘Making a Murderer,' but It Probably Won't Be Good for Stephen Avery
Exciting news, murder mystery fans. Production has begun on a follow-up show to Netflix's 2015 hit, Making a Murderer, but it's not what you'd expect.
According to Deadline, Convicting a Murderer will "investigate the controversial case built by the State of Wisconsin against Steven Avery for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach," but from the side of law enforcement...AKA it may change how you feel about the events that took place back in 2005.
“When Making A Murderer was produced, many on the law enforcement side of the story could not, or would not, participate in the series, which resulted in a one-sided analysis of the case,” the show's director and producer, docu-filmmaker Shawn Rech said. “This docuseries will examine the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective. It will also share with viewers the traumatic effects of being found guilty and vilified in the court of public opinion.”
Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, were both found guilty of the rape and murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, and have both been serving life sentences. After a judge overturned Dassey's conviction in 2016, an appeals court reversed the decision. Now, Dassey's lawyers are asking the Supreme Court to hear the case.
No word yet on when the eight-episode show will air, or whether Netflix's second installment of the original show is still in the works (it was greenlighted back in July 2016).
The only question on our minds: Where are (heartthrobs) Dean Strang and Jerry Buting when you need them?
