There's a New Hatchimal And It's About to Fly Off the Shelves

If you're a parent, chances are you couldn't stop hearing about Hatchimals last holiday season. The furry little creatures who live in plastic eggs were undoubtedly the hottest toy of 2016 (and stirred up their fair share of controversy). Well, Spin Master is back to try to make the shopping frenzy happen again with a new addition to the family: Hatchimal Surprise.

Hatchimal Surprise works similar to its predecessors, but this time, one egg will hatch twins! So you get two Hatchimals for the price of one. These new eggs are a bit bigger than the original, but your kids will still have to nurture the Hatchimal Surprise to get it ready to hatch. This time, you can even tap on the egg, and it'll tap back. Then, he'll come out singing "hatchy birthday" accompanied by one of two of his twins, Giravens or Peacats. Each is "born" with his own personality - for instance, one loves music, another likes to mimic one you say. Plus, for extended fun, the two can interact with one another, saying "I love you" back and forth.

We see a lot of cool things come through our Toy Lab every year and can confirm that mystery products are hot these days, with Hatchimals being the leader of the pack. Toys like Hatchimals become must-haves because they build up anticipation and really stoke children's desires to get their hands on them. This may sound a little frustrating, but these kinds of toys actually teach kids great skills like patience, delayed gratification and even potentially overcoming disappointment - all lessons we are totally on board with here in the Good Housekeeping Institute.

But plan early, parents: We expect there will be a hot demand for these cuties. Hatchimals Surprise will be available in store and online starting October 6 for $70 (that's just $10 more than the original version).
