'The Little Couple' Star Jen Arnold Shares Scary Updates on Hurricane Irma Evacuation
In preparation for the potential devastating effects of Hurricane Irma, The Little Couple stars Jen Arnold and Bill Klein were given a mandatory evacuation from their new home in St. Petersburg, Florida.
What started as a normal day of work at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital turned into a very long, stressful car ride to safety, Jen explained in the first of several Instagram posts updating her followers on the family's journey.
After quickly packing up, the TLC stars hit the road and headed west with their two children Will and Zoey. In a series of six Instagram posts shared from the passenger seat while Bill drove, Jen explained the difficulties they had escaping the storm. The family dealt with heavy traffic and had trouble filling up their tank due to a shortage at gas stations.
"Well there is no gas in Florida it seems, but we are fortunate-we actually did find some gas after quite sometime," Jen said when they were about two hours from their destination. "But I can't believe how many gas stations are emptied."
Jen and her family didn't make it to her parents house until 4 a.m. and are still checking in on her friends and family who stayed in central Florida, including her aunt and uncle who are batting down the hatches in her house instead of their own home on the beach.
"We are grateful to be safe and sound up here in the Northwest," Jen said in her latest Instagram update. "[The] kids are doing great and now we're just praying for the safety of our loved ones who are still in central Florida: my aunt and uncle in St. Petersburg and of course Bill's family on the East Coast. So please keep everybody in Irma's path in your prayers today."
This wasn't Jen's first experience dealing with a hurricane. She joked that she's a hurricane magnet and has experienced them in Orlando, Miami, Pittsburg, Houston, and now St. Petersburg.
The couple is also determined to do whatever they can to help the victims of both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey. TLC viewers will get to watch Bill return to his home state, Texas, to assist with relief efforts as part of the season nine premiere of The Little Couple, according to People. In the one-hour special, he will be handing out pet food and interviewing residents with his brothers Tom, a fire chief, and Joe, who has first responder experience.
"As long-time residents of Houston, we wanted to stand with the city we called home for so many years and do anything we could to help with relief efforts," the couple said in a statement. "It was a remarkable and humbling experience for Bill and his brothers to spend time on the ground with fellow Houstonians affected by the hurricane and come to the aid of many of our four-legged friends as well. We hope this special inspires others across the country to contribute as much as they can."
The two-hour The Little Couple season premiere airs September 19 at 8 p.m. ET on TLC.
