'SNL' Parodies the Oscars in "Harassment Awards"
Saturday Night Live wasn't about to miss an opportunity to discuss the sexual harassment scandal that's been sweeping Hollywood, ahead of Sunday's Oscars.
Following the slew of sexual assault and harassment allegations made against a number of high-profile Hollywood producers and stars in 2017 and 2018, the entertainment industry has been making some changes.
The Time's Up movement, which will provide people confronted with sexual harassment in the workplace with financial aid for legal fees, gained traction on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, when actors donned Time's Up pins, and wore black, to show their support. It's believed that attendees of the Oscars 2018 will do the same.
With producers who routinely took home awards at the Oscars, such as Harvey Weinstein, being accused of rape and sexual misconduct, and award-winning actors like Kevin Spacey being accused of sexual assault, the Oscars 2018 are set to be a very different affair. And Saturday Night Live was ready with a brutal sketch exploring the prevalence of sexual misconduct in Hollywood.
In the sketch, two presenters stand on the red carpet at The Grabbies, ready to interview this year's nominees. The male presenter reveals, "I'm sure excited! And as a man, I'm nervous."
In the timely sketch, one of the nominees reveals how he got nominated for the award. He says, "I gave out a lot of unwanted massages to my female co-stars. Also, I showed an intern my penis and said, 'Any ideas?'"
The female presenter tells a nominee for the "Most Open Robe" award, "You must be so ashamed." His reply: "You'd think so but... nope!"
As tonight's ceremony will surely attest, time is most definitely up.
