Here's Why Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Were A No-Show At The Emmys
Amidst all the star-studded attendees at tonight's 2018 Emmys, one A-list couple was significantly absent. It was confirmed over the weekend that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were due to attend the ceremony, when a preliminary seat chart was circulated on Twitter showing their assigned seats. Saturday Night Live was nominated for a number of awards tonight and won several, including Best Variety Sketch Series, but Davidson was not among the cast members in attendance.
Grande's team confirmed to People this evening that she would not attend after all. “Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight," their statement said. "Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”
Grande's team added that she'll be keeping a low profile for a while in order to heal from recent events: "Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend. She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
Mac Miller, Grande's ex-boyfriend, died earlier this month. In an emotional Instagram tribute posted a week after his death, Grande wrote: "I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest." Grande has also been open about suffering from severe anxiety following the suicide bombing that killed more than 20 people at her Manchester concert last May.
