Here's Why Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Weren't at the Emmys Last Night
Last night, some of the most important people in Hollywood got together to celebrate TV at the Emmy Awards, but Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were noticeably absent. According to her reps, the singer is taking some much-needed time to heal after the death of Mac Miller.
Davidson and his SNL costars were nominated for 11 different Emmys, and an Ariana Grande fan account previously tweeted a picture of the seating chart, confirming she and Davidson would be in attendance.
But yesterday, her reps told People she wouldn't be there, and neither would he.
“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” her team said. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”
Miller, who Grande dated for two years, died eleven days ago of an apparent overdose. And in May of 2017, a suicide bomber killed 22 people at one of Grande's concerts in Manchester. Considering both those things, Ariana is taking some time off.
“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” her team said. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
In the wake of Miller's death, Grande posted two tributes on Instagram. The first was a black and white picture of the rapper without a caption.
The second was a video of the two of them laughing together, and she wrote in the caption "you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."
