Ariana Grande and TMZ Had a Brutal Exchange About Her Misspelled Japanese Tattoo
In the last two days, Ariana Grande got a misspelled Japanese tattoo that translated to "small charcoal grill" rather than her single name "7 Rings," then corrected that tattoo and arguably made the translation worse. But hey, she's got a good sense of humor about the entire thing, she made clear on Twitter in an unexpected but great exchange with TMZ last night.
TMZ tweeted a story about her with her name spelled incorrectly in the tweet. "Ariane Grande Sued Over 'God Is a Woman' Music Video," the outlet tweeted. Grande retweeted them and added, "who ariane":
TMZ playfully replied to her though, and that's when the Japanese tattoo came up. "Guess Japanese isn't the only language that's hard to master," the outlet wrote with exasperated emojis.
"Touché," she wrote. "I’d shake ur hand rn if I could." That's in reference to the pain Grande endured to get her tattoo fixed. She got the Japanese symbols on her palm, a particularly painful place to get a tattoo and the reason the tattoo came out wrong in the first place.
When Grande first got the tattoo, she explained on Twitter that it hurt so badly, she couldn't get the additional characters she needed to write "7 Rings" properly. "I left out 'つの指' which should have gone in between," she explained in a tweet she ultimately took down. "It hurt like fuck n still looks tight. I wouldn’t have lasted one more symbol lmao. But this spot also peels a ton and won’t last so if I miss it enough I’ll suffer thru the whole thing next time."
When she got the tattoo fixed, she wrote she needed lidocaine shots to endure the process. "Slightly better," she wrote of her revised tattoo. "Thanks to my tutor for helping me fix and to @kanenavasard for being a legend. And to my doctor for the lidocaine shots (no joke). RIP tiny charcoal grill. Miss u man. I actually really like u."
