Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. Proposes to Becca Kufrin on the Season Finale—And Then He Changes His Mind
He has a winner… er, not? Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. chose between his two finalists, Becca Kufrin and Lauren Burnham, on the dramatic season 22 finale on Monday, March 5, which ended with tears and a proposal, followed by more tears and awkward silence.
After a romantic-but-foreboding trip to Peru, the race car driver finally made his choice and dropped to one knee to propose to Minneapolis-based publicist Kufrin. Luyendyk, who was a finalist himself on Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette back in 2012, made the difficult decision after much contemplation.

“The toughest part, I would say [is] yes, the toughest part of about being the Bachelor would probably be the end,” the season lead previously told The Knot and other reporters. “Making tough decisions towards the end… I mean, it’s the hardest decision of your life, really. It’s a forever decision. So, it’s not taken lightly, and I think that was probably the hardest thing.”
In a rather ominous moment–as Luyendyk handed out his final rose to Kufrin, the flower broke. Following a rather anticlimactic proposal, producers teased more drama ahead. “I really feel like I made a mistake,” Luyendyk remarked of his choice.
Cameras continued to roll as he then retracted his proposal to Kufrin in favor of Burnham. “Are you f—king kidding me?” she asked in disgust. Many viewers especially across social media expressed similar disdain for the 36-year-old personality.
