Bachelorette Clare Crawley: Why Telling Juan Pablo Off Was “One of the Great Moments of My Life”
Clare Crawley is determined to find her future husband. The Season 16 Bachelorette made her way to the stage on ABC’s After the Final Rose live show Tuesday, March 10, to discuss her past with the franchise and why it’s helped solidify her path ahead.
“I never will give up for [true love],” Crawley noted. “To me, even more so as I developed more self-esteem, more self-worth, even more so I’m deserving of it—as everybody is.”
The latest lead, 38, looked back at her first stint on the franchise when she famously slammed then-Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis, arguably the worst of all time, for his treatment of the finalists. (“I would never want my children having a father like you,” she said at the time.)
Calling the split “empowering” even in retrospect on Tuesday evening, Crawley said it was the catalyst to helping her break an unhealthy pattern in her own personal relationships. “I do not regret that moment, and I would not change that moment for anything,” she said. “I had been through some pretty terrible relationships, and I was that girl that let guys walk all over me. And I had never stood up for myself ever before. And it was just one of the greatest moments of my life to finally stand up there and say, ‘None of it is okay.’ And not just to him but to essentially every guy that ever hurt me before and took advantage of me. It was, ‘No more.’”
This will Crawley’s fifth return to the franchise after she first appeared on Galavis’s season in 2014. Her appearance on stage was a welcome pivot following an exhausting two-night-finale special of Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor, which ended with a surprise twist: after proposing, the pilot broke off his engagement to Hannah Ann Sluss in pursuit of his runner-up Madison Prewett. However, his mother Barb Weber vocalized during the live show how she was none-too-pleased with her son’s current girlfriend.
Now, the spotlight is on Crawley, who will narrow down her choice from 32 contestants to one recipient of the final rose. Watch a throwback clip of Clare in action above.
