This Ballet Dancer Saved a Man From Oncoming Train
In an incredible show of strength and grace, American Ballet Theatre dancer Gray Davis leaped onto the New York City subway tracks Saturday night to save a homeless man who'd been pushed off the platform, according to witnesses who spoke to police, as reported by the New York Times.
Gray, 31, was on his way home from his wife's ballet performance at the Metropolitan Opera House when he saw the 58-year-old man lying unconscious in the subway tracks. When it became apparent that no one else was going to jump down to help the man, Gray took the leap himself, lifting the man up to the platform, where others pulled him up. It wasn't until Gray heard a train approaching that he realized he'd also have to save himself.
"I never realized how high it was," he told the New York Times of the distance between the tracks and the platform. “Luckily, I’m a ballet dancer, so I swung my leg up.”
The homeless man regained consciousness when taken to the hospital, and Gray, who'd been recovering from a herniated disk, will be performing onstage tonight. Here's hoping the hero gets the standing ovation he deserves! ?? ?? ??
