Denim will never be out of style, but the cut, color, length, and waist will always be changing with the times. One way to suss out what will be in next is by checking out the latest runways. The spring/summer 2025 collections that debuted at New York, London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week gave us a look at what’s to come, and we’re happy to report that the world of denim is more exciting than ever.
The best thing about denim is that almost every style works for every season. You can wear straight-leg jeans with sandals in the summer and boots in the winter. You can rock shorts in the spring and add on tights for the fall. There’s no wrong time to wear a pair of jeans. The hard part, however, is navigating the different styles.
If you’ve been keeping up, you probably own a pair of barrel jeans or have some jorts in a shopping cart. Luckily for you, those silhouettes aren’t going anywhere. Brands like Diesel and Skall Studio sent models strutting down the runway in cropped designs as labels like Acne Studios and Hyke gave the balloon fad new life. We also noticed an emphasis on dark washes. Valentino and Vetements demonstrated denim sophistication with deep, moody hues.
Of course, finding denim that fits and flatters your body type and is also on trend can be a daunting task. We get it, which is why we’ve done the heavy lifting for you. But remember, fashion should be fun and never stressful—so if you fancy a pair that looks good, then who cares what anyone else thinks. We’re simply here to provide some inspiration. To see what’s most popular now, or what’s about to pop off, keep scrolling.
Dark Wash
“While light blue and black jeans have dominated the space over the past few years, dark wash is making its return this season. The more polished color is perfect for tons of settings, from casual office dress codes to drinks with the girls.” —Tara Larson, Contributing Writer

Baggy
“Baggy jeans are seemingly going nowhere, especially with runways and style stars rocking the loose look throughout the spring/summer 2025 fashion weeks. Designers like Stella McCartney further cemented the trend, sending models down the runway in roomy styles paired with statement pieces, perfectly demonstrating how to make the trend feel elevated.” —Robyn Merrett, Style & Beauty Editor

Cargo
“Cargo pants were all the rage in 2024, and according to the spring/summer 2025 runways, the style will be just as popular in 2025. Brands Diesel, Natasha Zinko, études gave the trend a denim upgrade, which we’re sure will dominate the streets in the coming months. Cargo denim feel rugged but cool, thanks to the many pockets and flattering silhouettes. While the style feels so specific, you can style it a number of ways. Try cargo jeans with a white button-down shirt and pointed-toe pumps or with a hoodie and Adidas Samba sneakers for a more casual feel.” —Tara Larson, Contributing Writer

Jorts
“I remember when jorts were controversial. I had to be in high school. No one wanted anything to do with them. The shorter the better. Now, they’re the “It” style, and despite me talking trash about the look back in the day, I’m all for them now. I think it just comes down to styling. There’s something so chic about a pair of jorts with a sandal heel or an over-the-knee boot. It’s funky and fresh. Brands like Skall Studio, Filippa K, and OpéraSPORT provided helpful jorts styling lessons on the spring/summer 2025 runways, sending models down the catwalk with jorts and pumps, jorts and loafers, as well as jorts and blazers. Jorts are here to stay.” —Robyn Merrett, Style & Beauty Editor

Barrel
“There’s a huge debate happening on TikTok about whether or not barrel jeans should be a trend. Some say they make leg’s look funny and others claim the style makes them walk funny. Fashion is in the eye of the beholder, so I guess these opinions are fair. However, we cannot deny the popularity of the somewhat controversial style. I personally am excited by the look because jeans don’t always get the attention they deserve. The style was a hit on the streets during New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2025 with event attendees stepping out in a number of barrel styles.” —Tara Larson, Contributing Writer

Dresses
“Pants aren’t the only way to wear denim, and the spring/summer 2025 runways served as proof. Models strutted down runways in denim jackets, shirts, and dresses—giving us fresh ways to see the fabric. The Aknvas frock above is a fun take on the billowing dress trend thanks to the umbrella skirt construction. Dresses like this are great for denim lovers who want to incorporate jeans in their formal wear rotation. This look can be worn to a cocktail party, a birthday celebration, and even a bridal shower.” —Robyn Merrett, Style & Beauty Editor
