All the Best Photos from Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee Celebration
Nobody throws a party quite like Queen Elizabeth II. After all, she gets to celebrate her birthday not once, but twice a year. And as the longest reigning monarch in British history she's also gotten to enjoy a few milestone anniversaries on the throne as well. One of those, which created a lasting impact throughout the Commonwealth thanks to the many parks and structures dedicated in the event's name, was the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, marking 25 years since Elizabeth II had ascended the throne. (The event also features in season three of the Netflix series The Crown.)
The celebrations began in February 6, 1977 to mark the day that she inherited the role of monarch and continued throughout the year as the Queen took on her annual schedule of royal tours, but the most famed of all of those commemorations, of course, took place in London from June 6-7. Here's a look back at the big day.
To mark the occasion of the 25th anniversary of her taking on the role of monarch, Elizabeth posed for a royal portrait in the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace on February 6, 1977.
Crowds gathered to watch the monarch and her husband, Prince Philip as they took a ceremonial carriage ride through the country's capital in a gilded coach on June 7.
As part of the official celebrations of the Silver Jubilee, the Queen and Prince Philip joined members of the clergy and royal guests at St. Paul's Cathedral.
The Queen and Prince Philip participated in a special church service dedicated to giving thanks for her years on the throne.
The walk to Guildhall for post-service lunch was cheered on by hundreds of loyal fans and well-wishers.
Following lunch, the royal took another carriage ride through the city, this time in an open-top coach on their way back to Buckingham Palace.
It wouldn't be a royal celebration without a Buckingham Palace balcony wave, and the Queen's Silver Jubilee was no exception.
