6 ways Walmart's new delivery service made my life as a mom better

When I became a parent, I envisioned my future as one gauzy, soft-focus Instagram post. But imagination gave way to reality, and that reality comes complete with bedtime whining, chapped lips, smushed strawberry slices and, wait for it...even lice. To deal with the ups, downs and icks of motherhood, you need the right tools. And often, you need them without the effort of getting in the car and making a trip to the store.
I found them at Walmart — from the secret to a smoother bedtime to an awesome cast iron pan (on sale for just $22 right now) that makes me feel like a dinnertime hero. And I got them in my hands with no effort, thanks to Walmart+.
In case you're not familiar, Walmart+ is kind of like Amazon Prime. For a flat fee — $13 a month or $98 a year — you can place as many orders as you want and get lots of other perks. You get your stuff fast — overnight, or in some cases, the very same day. Sign-up is easy — you can even do a a risk-free 30-day trial here. (By the way, even those without Walmart+ still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.)
In fact, Walmart+ membership in itself makes a wonderful Mother's Day gift! Read on for the six best things I’ve ever bought at Walmart — each one a total "mom-saver."
This $10 Flower Beauty Warrior Princess Mascara in Royal Black
Here’s an insider beauty tip: Many of the fanciest brands are made in the same factories as their more humble counterparts. This mascara is up there with anything you'll find at Sephora. It makes your eyes pop, without clumping or depositing chunks of weird black goo. Instant mood-lifter.
This Lodge Pre-seasoned 10.5-inch Cast Iron Grill Pan for cooking basically everything
A steak isn’t a steak unless it has grill marks. Same with a juicy chicken breast. But you don’t want to fire up a grill every night. This is the sweet spot.
It’s an heirloom skillet that costs less than two movie tickets, but will last for decades. It makes it a snap to cook a quick, healthy, flavorful meal for the kids, from scrambled eggs to quesadillas. You clean it using water, and salt if needed. I view caring for this skillet as being applicable to life in general: Show it love, use it with respect, be kind to it, and it will serve you well in return.
This classic Fisher-Price toy for a steal
It’s hard to believe that my son used to find this little stacking ring the challenge of a lifetime. He was entranced.
This could be one of the most perfect toys ever made: It makes kids do the work, as they hone their fine motor skills and tackle problem solving by figuring out which rings go where and how. And they do it over and over and over again.
Hello Bello's Baby Shampoo & Body Wash, which is not just for kids
Kristen Bell doesn’t shill for random brands. In fact, she cares so much that she created her own line of kid-care products with hubby Dax Shepard to provide great quality at accessible prices. It’s a lofty goal, but having used their stuff since it launched, I can say with confidence that they did it.
This product is meant for babies. Do I care? No, no I do not. This body wash and shampoo is gentle, subtly scented and a little goes a long way. Because it’s two products in one, you wash and go. And it leaves adult hair soft and shiny.
These good-for-the-planet Recyclable and Sealable Paper Sandwich Bags
Kids are never not hungry. And kids never do not want a snack. The handiest way to tote snacks around is by using ziplock bags, which are horrific for the planet, and oceans in particular.
These recyclable wax paper bags are the answer: They have funky little patterns (we like sharks in this house), seal shut, and don’t ever seem to self-destruct in bags or pockets.
This big-and-cozy Pillow Pets Panda
Why does a young child want to cuddle up with an 18-inch stuffed panda instead of a plush down pillow? Need you ask? There is no answer. At least not one that makes sense. But I do know that when his pillow pet is on the bed, bedtime goes smoother. And it’s machine washable, for obvious reasons. It's clearly a favorite in other homes as well — check out that 4.9-star rating!
