The best royal wedding reactions to American Bishop Michael Curry
How do you command attention during a lengthy wedding service? Ask Michael Curry, the American clergyman who stole the show at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s May 19 wedding.
Officially known as the Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church, the Chicago-born Curry gave the address at the royal wedding, where his enthusiastic preaching style quickly drew notice from the royal family and people watching at home.

In contrast to the somewhat solemn style of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Curry gave an impassioned delivery that included references to slavery. His words drew amused reactions on social media, many of which noted wedding guests like Zara Tindall looking a bit alarmed.
I cannot believe there is a pastor talking about slave spirituals at a dang royal wedding. Hello 21st century!

Well that preacher just got his 30seconds… Urm 30 HOURS of fame. My word talk about repeating one's self we are enjoying his energy though and the uncomfortable shifting in the chairs that is happening among the royals #RoyalWedding

Monumental… black preacher taking us to church at a quintessentially British wedding, this is epically ground breaking ? (albeit royals being majorly awkward) #RoyalWedding https://t.co/cRRveyDVW6

Royal wedding has got me in stitches. The stifled smirks amongst our British snobs is hilarious. All hail this American pastor #royalwedding

Brb sobbing as this cool pastor from my hometown of Chicago quotes Dr. MLK Jr. At the royal wedding to a BEAUTIFUL mixed race couple I can’t believe I’m getting to watch this history happen!! #royalwedding

While he had plenty of fans, some felt Curry’s address was inappropriate for the occasion.
Geez, that Episcopal preacher is a little over the top for a royal wedding (he’d be great for a revival meeting)… The audience went from amusement to bewilderment; the royals didn’t look “amused”. .. It looked like Prince Philip was going to have a stroke. #RoyalWeddingTODAY https://t.co/v0vhIUpUru

From now on every pastor for a royal wedding is gonna have to have a prewritten sermon… there’s a time and a place to talk about slavery, a #royalwedding is not one.

He may not have been every guest’s cup of tea, but running away with the royal wedding — and holding everyone’s attention — is no small feat.
