Best water tower ever? 507 Day is here to celebrate it

May 7—ROCHESTER — A Rochester group is celebrating the ear-of-corn water tower on what Becky Montpetit, owner of the local resource website Rochester Local, is calling 507 Day following the area code and date May 7, 2024.

"507 day is meant to be a lighthearted day to show pride and love for Rochester MN," Montpetit said in an Instagram message. "The idea came from a few people and businesses. Ultimately, it's a grassroots effort to give Rochester a reason to celebrate this city and its uniqueness. And what better mascot that our wonderful ear of corn water tower."

Businesses including Little Thistle Beer and Bebap Korean Eats are celebrating the day with food and drink specials. A corn-inspired haiku is also displayed at the Historic Chateau Theatre. Montpetit said she hopes to grow the day next year and incorporate more businesses and people.

"Join us today in paying homage to the corniest city in the world! Maybe you'll pledge allegiance by dressing in yellow and green," 507 Day said in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
