The trailer just premiered.
The short teaser introduces viewers to the world of the Tranquillum House spa and Masha, the resort's eerie director (played by Nicole Kidman). The trailer begins with Francis, as played by Melissa McCarthy, driving to the resort. Then, things escalate... quickly. Watch the full trailer above.
It's based on another bestselling book by Liane Moriarty.
Nine Perfect Strangers spent 13 weeks in the New York Times bestseller list when it was published in 2018. Based on its official description, it seems to exist at the center of wealth and intrigue (in other words, textbook Moriarty.) Read the synopsis in full below.
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.
The cast is stacked.
Nicole Kidman, who is also executive producing, plays Masha, the resort's director, while Melissa McCarthy portrays Francis, a guest at the retreat. Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Bobby Cannavale, Regina Hall, and Samara Weaving will also appear in the series.
There are even more familiar faces behind the camera.
Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelly is co-writing and co-showrunning the series, alongside John Henry Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow). Moriarty is be involved in an executive producer role, as is Big Little Lies producer Bruna Papandrea.
The series will premiere August 18.
