Brad Paisley Releases New Single Featuring Ukrainian President

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appears on the country star's newest single, 'Same Here,' released on Friday, Feb. 24.

Brad Paisley is showing support for the embattled country of Ukraine in the best way he knows how: with his music.

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Russian troops invading Ukraine, the country star, 50, released a new single single which includes a feature from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself.

The song—entitled "Same Here"—was released on Friday, Feb. 24, exactly one year after the start of the full-scale military invasion that has caused devastation among Ukraine over the past 12 months.

In the new song, Paisley sings about the similarities people from all different countries share with each other, and concludes with a recording of Zelenskyy's voice speaking proudly about the Ukrainian people.

The recording seems to be from a phone call Paisley had with Zelenskyy, who is heard saying that we all "appreciate the same things," despite different countries and different cultures. "Children, freedom, our flag, our soldiers, our people," Zelenskyy adds.

"On this one year anniversary of the invasion, I'm reminded of the ways we are all so similar," Paisley wrote on Instagram to announce the new track, his first single off his upcoming album, Son of the Mountains. "Here is the first song available from my new project. This is “Same Here". Featuring Pres. Volodymyr Zelenskyy."

While talking about the effects the war has had since it began last year, Paisley told the Associated Press, "the world felt like it was in a new place that it hadn't been in decades."

"We do deal with stuff going on in the world,” Paisley said. “How do you sing about things that are truly big — a big deal right now — that also don’t feel like maybe they’re the type of thing that you would be singing about typically? And yeah, on this album I have kind of really dug deep and tried to say something.”

The royalties from Paisley's song will be donated to United24 to help build houses for thousands of displaced Ukrainians whose homes were destroyed in the war, as the crooner hopes his music will be able to make a real difference.

"That’s where it gets really rewarding," he added. "Feeling like maybe the heart of this helps paint the picture they want to paint."
