Breeze Airways is bringing its low-cost flights to Phoenix. Here's where you can go

Corrections & Clarifications: A previous version of this article misstated which local airports have Allegiant Air flights to Provo, Utah. The airports are Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway.

Phoenix has a new airline — its fourth of 2022.

Breeze Airways announced it will introduce nonstop service to two cities from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The first flights will take off on Nov. 2.

The twice-weekly flights will depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays via Sky Harbor Terminal 3.

Launched by JetBlue Airways founder David Neeleman in 2021, Breeze Airways is now the 23rd airline to serve Sky Harbor and the fourth to launch service there in 2022. It joins Southern Airways, Allegiant Air and Denver Air this year.

The airline describes itself on its website as "merging technology with kindness" with a seamless booking process and no change or cancellation fees. It uses smaller planes like the Airbus A220 and Embraer E190 and E195 to keep costs low.

“I welcome Breeze Airways and its innovative approach to air travel as we increase travel options and passenger volume at Sky Harbor International Airport,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a statement. “We look forward to its success and growth of destinations served from Phoenix.”

Where will Breeze Airways fly from Phoenix?

Breeze will offer service from Sky Harbor Airport to Provo, Utah, and Charleston, South Carolina.

Provo, 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, is the home of Brigham Young University and is beloved for its outdoor recreation spots like Provo Canyon, Mount Timpanogos and Sundance.

Charleston landmarks include Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began in 1861, and the colorful Victorian houses in the city's downtown area known as Rainbow Row. It's also drawn interest for its food scene.

Charleston is frequently named one of the best U.S. travel destinations. It recently topped Travel + Leisure's 2022 list of best cities in the U.S., its 10th year at No. 1.

Why these routes?

Breeze looks to fill voids in underserved markets where there are limited air travel options, Michael Wuerger, the airline's chief operating officer, said during a conversation with airport staff broadcast on Facebook Live.

Charleston, for instance, is a popular destination that doesn't have nonstop service from Phoenix, he said.

"If you'd like to go there, you go to a different airport, change airplanes and maybe have to wait a few hours," Wuerger said. "But (with Breeze) you jump on the plane, our brand new A220, and we'll get you there safe and sound."

Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines currently fly to Charleston from Sky Harbor, but don't offer nonstop flights.

While many major carriers offer flights to Salt Lake City from Sky Harbor, they don't serve Provo. Allegiant Air currently flies to and from Provo via Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Sky Harbor.

Is Breeze offering introductory rates?

Wuerger said introductory fares will start at $29 for select Provo flights and $89 for select Charleston flights.

The $29 Provo flights and $89 Charleston flights are currently available for travel on Nov. 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19 and 30; Dec. 3, 7, 10 and 14; Jan. 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25 and 28; and Feb. 1, 4, 8 and 11.
