The Brunch Spot Travis Kelce Says Serves Up 'Magical' Dishes

Whether or not you consider yourself to be a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs or Taylor Swift's music, it's kind of hard to avoid the massive net with which their superstardom casts. Since the start of their budding relationship in September, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have embarked on a bit of a date night restaurant tour that undoubtedly has drawn massive amounts of attention to the establishments they visit. Even the star football player's favorite brunch spot, Succotash, has not only seen the wrath of a team’s Super Bowl winning celebration, it has also hosted an army of Swifties during a stop on Swift’s Eras Tour in July.
In an interview with People, Succotash owner Beth Barden gave the inside scoop on just how the popular establishment feels about the sudden influx of patrons. "I think when people come in for the games, it absolutely has a positive impact," Barden told People. “The Chiefs themselves are so positive and community-minded...I'm really happy to be in the community that they're in and I think [they're] happy to contribute to the community."
Barden went on to describe the weekend that Swift performed at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City as the “busiest two days” in the history of the restaurant. “By a landslide,” Barden exclaimed. “I walked in and truthfully, I still almost can’t–,” Barden said while holding back tears. “It was so lovely.” The owner recalled people dressed in sequins and full makeup, wearing their best outfits. “It was like three or four days of just beautiful mayhem.”

Although Succotash was born from humble beginnings, as Barden described, starting out with a “$25 electric plugin home stove and two little Walmart Presto table top griddles,” the establishment has since taken a unique approach to business as compared to others. “I’ve just been happy to go very, very slowly and just build very, very slowly over time,” Barden said. “I just want it to be a community-based neighborhood staple where our primary thing is that everybody that comes in here feels appreciated and welcome."

After moving to Kansas City from the Detroit area in 1998 and losing her job, Barden opened her first restaurant a little over two decades ago, claiming that it cost just about as much as a used car. Succotash has since been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on two separate occasions as well as one time on Man Versus Food. The restaurant has catered for the likes of the cast of Queer Eye and even landed a Bud Light commercial which starred Travis Kelce — who is among some of the establishments most dedicated and loyal fanbase.
"I love having him here, and I love the idea that he can come in here and not be bothered," Barden said regarding the tight ends' attendance. "He just comes in and if the line is back there, he is in line with people. He does not ever want special treatment."
As for the dish he gets when he stops by? You can bet it's his go-to pre-game meal: French toast. And according to the star player, it's absolutely "magical."
"You have to be just a kind, appreciative person for that to be your response over a plate of French toast and eggs," Barden told People of the response Travis gave his server Claudia about the meal. "They're good, I'll tell you that. But it's not like somebody was bringing him some sort of five star situation!"
Now that Kelce and Swift are public with their relationship, we’ll have to wait and see where the iconic couple dines next. And with their loyal fanbase in tow, it’s hard to imagine any establishment not being ecstatic about the sudden influx in business—just so long as they can stay on their toes and deliver a great experience.
