January Jones, Oliver Hudson and More Had Halloween on the Brain at the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic

Hollywood donned its best afternoon attire on Saturday to sip champagne and cheer on a field of dusty horses and polo players at the Sixth Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. But while celebs like Selma Blair, Lauren Conrad, and Rachel Zoe raved about their designer threads, others, like Scott Foley, January Jones, and Oliver Hudson were more eager to discuss their Halloween plans.
“My sister and I have a party, usually every year that I don’t pay for,” said Hudson. “I make my sister pay for it. But it’s always the epic party and everyone goes all out. I can’t wait for Halloween!” The Scream Queens hunk told us that he’d love to wear a full fat suit this year and stay incognito throughout the entire soiree, even if that doesn’t sit well with his famous sis. “Kate usually does a theme. But if I have an idea, I will pursue that idea, aside from the theme, he explained. ”She’s a hot little number and she’s going to do things that are going to make her and her friends look as sexy as can be. So it’s always like, airline stewardesses, or there was a Game of Thrones theme where they were all like Khaleesi.”
Jesse Metcalfe’s girlfriend, Cara Santana, has already committed him to three different Halloween engagements, one of which is her “good friend’s” upcoming Santa Barbara costume party/wedding as well as some haunted houses. Talk of having to come up with a festive ensemble, for what we speculate is Jamie Chung and Brian Greenberg’s long-awaited wedding, has the actor in a frenzy.
His better half, however, has things under control. “I already got it for you,” she tells him. “I’m a cat and he’s…well I call it a ‘cat napper.’ But it’s like a hunter? He’s basically wearing khakis and a safari hat,” she explains. Left to his own devices, Metcalfe doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to his costumes. “I was Alex from A Clockwork Orange one year. I showed up to a really seedy late night party and I was asked to leave because I was told my costume was freaking people out who apparently were on various substances and easily freaked out,” he dished.

Ashley Madekwe takes her costume creating very serious. “I win at Halloween,” she gushed. “I really love colorblind casting. I play whatever part I want. I was Cher from Clueless one year and people were like, ‘But you’re not white and blonde’ and I was like ‘I don’t care. This is the part I want to play!’ My friend, who’s Asian, was Dionne. She braided her hair and she made it work.” This year, the Salem star will be at Matthew Morrison’s bash, as well as a few others, which she wouldn’t name in case she decided to ditch out on them.
Being on American Horror Story: Hotel has Cheyenne Jackson all jazzed up about the upcoming holiday. “I have all of these amazing things at my fingertips now. These amazing artists and this host of other things,” he explained. He’s long overdue for a good costume, however, as his strict religious background resulted in several Halloweens spent dressed as Moses. “That was super boring,” he admitted. His best costume to date? A 19-year-old slutty boy scout. “I don’t really remember much of that night,” he revealed with a grin.
Scandal’s Bellamy Young, who complimented her polo date Darby Stanchfield in matching Shoshanna, is pimping out her Scandal co-stars this year. “I was just on The Chew and I pitched them that they should dress up like us and we should dress up like them,” she explained. “If that happens, I want to be Mario [Batali] because I want those comfortable shoes,” she said, looking down at her Cole Haan flats.

For Eva Amurri, James Marsden, and Jones, Halloween will be a family affair. “We’re actually hosting a trick-or-treating party at our house for parents and kids,” said Amurri, who says she spent much of her childhood in costume. “I was sort of like a strange child, so I was really excited to be like a pumpkin when I was nine. I mean, I was old to be a pumpkin! I was like a dead Huckleberry Finn one year. That was kind of a weird one. But all my costumes were great. We dressed up a lot as kids…actor family. It wasn’t just Halloween.”
Marsden, whose brood has a “no store-bought costume” rule, was racking his brain over how he was going to top his son’s spider suit. “When he was about 8, he had a spider costume that was half PVC piping from Home Depot that was foam balls from Michael’s. It was all sort of a mish-mash of crafts and materials all put together. We made his fangs, they were just like Reynolds Wrap tin foil that he had to attach to a ball he had to hold in his mouth all night.”
Meanwhile, Jones told us that her entire clan is taking part in the holiday this year. “I’m Claire from Jurassic World, per my son’s request,” she told us. “He is a T-Rex and the dog is a raptor. He wants to be Owen and a T-Rex.” Before heading in to enjoy the festivities in her Zimmermann dress, Reformation blazer, and very horse race-appropriate Eugenia Kim hat, Jones assured us that yes, à la Bryce Howard, she would indeed be trick-or-treating, with dinos, in stilettos. “I need to find some really bad heels,” she joked.
