Camilla Pays Tribute to Queen Elizabeth's "Unforgettable" Smile
In the days following Queen Elizabeth's death, many have paid tribute to the late British monarch and her accomplishments, but the most poignant remembrances have come from within the royal family.
Princess Anne for example opened up about spending the Queen's last moments together. "I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting," she said.
And Prince Harry recalled his grandmother meeting his children and wife, Meghan: "Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren," he said, referencing the Queen's words: "Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.
Now, in a new program on the BBC, Camilla, the Queen Consort spoke about her late mother-in-law's smile, and how she paved the way as a woman in power.
"She’s got those wonderful blue eyes, that when she smiles they light up her whole face. I will always remember her smile. That smile is unforgettable," Camilla says in the package, which was filmed in recent months.
"She’s been part of our lives for ever. I’m 75 now and I can’t remember anyone except the Queen being there. It must have been so difficult for her being a solitary woman. There weren’t women prime Ministers or Presidents. She was the only one so I think she carved her own role." Tomorrow, Camilla, alongside King Charles and the rest of the royal family, will formally say goodbye to the Queen both publicly and privately, in a televised state funeral at Westminster Abbey and a small committal service, which will be closed to the press.
