Candace Cameron Bure Defends Herself Against Allegations of Homophobia
Candace Cameron Bure recently came under attack on Instagram after she shared a photo of herself posing in a "Not Today Satan" t-shirt.
What was probably meant to be an innocent tongue-in-cheek post by the Fuller House star quickly turned into a heated feud with another celebrity.
The signature phrase on Candace's shirt was made famous by RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio, who used it during her time on the popular drag competition show.
Bianca-who sells "Not Today Satan" merchandise on her website and named her latest comedy tour after the expression-reposted Candace's photo on her own Instagram. The comic also added the caption, "IF ONLY, THIS HOMOPHOBIC, REPUBLICAN KNEW………"
Thousands of Bianca's followers flooded Candace's post with "horrible" comments insisting that she is a homophobe and calling her out for not knowing the origin of the popular phrase. A politically and religiously charged battle quickly began between fans on the two Instagram accounts.
The commenters may have been referring to opinions that Candace expressed about a situation involving gay marriage while she was co-hosting The View in 2015.
In response to Bianca's post and the ensuing backlash, Candace commented a peaceful response:
"I'm not homophobic and [it's] always sad when people think otherwise. Loving Jesus doesn't mean I hate gay people or anyone. You sent a bunch of hateful people to my page writing horrible things. I hope next time you'll spread love and kindness, even when you disagree with people. Sending you love and wish you all the best. Truly."
Bianca later posted a screenshot of Candace's comment, accompanied by some emojis and hashtags.
We aren't sure if this means they've settled feud, but hopefully the cyberbullying on both ends of the comments sections will cease.
