In November 2017, Carrie Underwood suffered a fall at her home that left her with a broken wrist and facial injuries that required more than 40 stitches. Underwood spent several months out of the public eye as she healed, but has been slowly resuming her normal life in recent weeks.

On April 15, the singer performed live for the first time since her accident, at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. She sang "Cry Pretty," her first solo single since 2016's "Dirty Laundry."

On Friday, Underwood shared a closeup selfie that shows off the scars around her upper lip and chin.

"Ready to cheer on the boys tonight! Especially that #12! I hear he’s alright! 😘" she captioned the photo of herself preparing to support her husband, Mike Fisher, and his hockey team, the Nashville Predators.

"I was taking the dogs out to go pee one last time, and I just-I tripped," she explained during an appearance on iHeartRadio’s The Bobby Bones Show on Thursday. "There was one step, and I didn’t let go of the leashes! Priorities! So that’s why my left hand’s fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step."

"If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been perfectly fine," she added. "But it was one step that messed everything up."

"I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different. I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up," she wrote later, in a January post to her fans.
