Carthage’s new Boots Court Motel mural features historical icons and more

CARTHAGE, Mo. — There’s a new addition to the Boots Court Motel complex in Carthage.

Two local art teachers – Cheryl Church and Alexandra Burnside – put their talents to good use by painting a mini mural next to the Boots Court Travel Center.

Manager Jeremy Morris said the mural was finished a few weeks ago following a series of weather delays.

The mural features Clark Gable, who stayed at the motel twice, and the Sinclair dinosaur because that’s what the travel center was originally.

“We had this space here beside the new, renovated, Visitor’s Center which is serving as our gift shop and our check-in office and we thought, you know, what can we do with this, well, we’re on Route 66 so you got to have some visual flair, so we decided to install new panels and create this twenty eight foot mural that kind of gives a little bit of the history of the Boots Court Motel and Visitor’s Center,” said Morris.

There’s also a Coca Cola sign, as well as the symbols of Route 66 and Jefferson Highway.
