CBS Announces Spring Premiere Dates for 'Survivor' and 'The Amazing Race'

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of the past year created new opportunities for CBS veteran reality series Survivor and The Amazing Race, as both shows aired 90-minute episodes all season for the first time ever. And, for at least the near future, it looks like that change has become permanent.

CBS announced their spring lineups and premiere dates for 2024 today. And, understandably, the network will see a boon of their scripted content come back during mid-February. But, alongside hit series like NCIS, Young Sheldon, and FBI, they also unveiled the debuts and runtimes of the upcoming new seasons of Survivor and The Amazing Race.

Survivor 46
will debut with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, February 28. It will also, for the first time ever, be followed by a two-hour second episode the next week on March 6. Starting on March 13, the show will return to its now-usual 90-minute runtime. The 46th season of the stalwart show filmed back in June in the islands of Fiji and will assumingly feature 18 new castaways continuing to navigate the "new era" of the series.

Wednesday, March 13 will also serve as the premiere of The Amazing Race 36. Like its current model, season 36 of the Emmy-winning series will continue to air 90-minute episodes. Sources confirm that the season airing in the spring is actually the 35th season that filmed back in 2022. Airing of the season was swapped with the one that filmed right after it, due to the latter being produced with 90-minute episodes in mind. The Amazing Race 36 will allegedly feature a route primarily in central and South America and the Caribbean, and will likely not feature the return of past twists like the U-Turn and Express Pass that we have seen on this current season.

The change to 90-minute episodes this past fall has been one of the most universally praised modifications in both series' history. Through the extra runtime, fans have been able to see much more of the castaways and teams in the hunt for a million dollars. Survivor 45 and The Amazing Race 35 have both just passed the halfway point of their respective seasons, and air back-to-back with 90-minute episodes Wednesday nights on CBS.
