It looks like CSI fans will have another chance to follow the evidence! Viewers were thrilled to hear about the reprisal of the original series, and the new CSI: Vegas spinoff delivered all of the mystery and intrigue (and science) that the original series brought to the small screen more than 20 years ago. Of course, much of the excitement surrounded the return of original cast members William Petersen (Gil Grissom), Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle), Wallace Langham (David Hodges), and Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass) returning to the roles they made famous.
When the series finale aired on December 8 (even culminating with a long-awaited kiss between Gil and Sara!), fans began hoping for a second season. And they didn't have to wait long for the news!
The CSI: Vegas Instagram account made the official announcement on December 15 with a post confirming that season two was a go. The caption says, "As long as there's evidence to follow, you can't get rid of me. Ready to dig deeper? #CSIVegas"
Fans were ecstatic about this development. One commented, "Fantastic news, loved seeing Gil and Sarah. Maybe some other former members of the original #CSI might show up on season two of #CSIVegas? ???" and another said, "Yes!!! Best news ever!!! ????????????." One viewer wrote, "YESSSS! ?? Freakin loved this show years ago and loved it again! So happy!!"
But you'll want to brace yourself for this news: According to Variety, William Petersen will not be returning as Gil Grissom, although he will continue his role as executive producer. At this time, Jorja Fox has not been confirmed for season two. New cast members Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon, and Mel Rodriguez are all expected to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Is the door open for other former cast members to return? According to TVLine, that's a definite possibility. When asked about CSI vets returning for season two, showrunner Jason Tracey said, "We got everybody that we wanted for the telling of this particular story — but I will say that my appetite is large, and the world of possibilities from the run of the franchise across four different iterations in the past…. I’d be like a kid in a candy store if I got a Season 2, to kind of 'go shopping' and hopefully tap in some familiar faces."
