Celebrity Florist Jeff Leatham's Simple Holiday Advice
"Can I give you a call back? I am headed out to Kardashian-land now,” says florist and designer Jeff Leatham. Of course he can call back.
Leatham is in the middle of one of his busiest seasons—the holidays. Among his clients, which include The Four Seasons and George V hotels, is the Kardashian family, and he creates a different Christmas scene in each of their homes. This year, he has 38 different holiday installations across the world.
“I am literally the King of Christmas,” he says. “But seriously, I think all of the major cities have a Jeff Leatham holiday installation right now.”
One place to spot his installations is at Intersect by Lexus in New York City, where he has created Winter Glow, a room filled with 135,000 lights and 20,000 flower stems surrounding two artificial ponds with his now-signature golden geometric reindeer.
“The collaboration was so great because Lexus provided an empty canvas and that is rare from a company,” he says.
Looking at Winter Glow alongside some of his other fantastical creations—cascading walls of gardenias, pools of roses, towering Douglas firs—it begs the question, does he ever think, 'Maybe we’ve gone too far?' “No,” he says. “I was worried about the George V Hotel in Paris this year because we went all black, 34 black Christmas trees trimmed with gold. But it turned out great. As an artist, worrying is how you know you are pushing your boundaries.”
His "X-Mas in Xtremis" approach is certainly in line with the Kardashians; he recently completed a rainbow and pink mise en scène for Khloe Kardashian and is adding the final polar bears to Kylie Jenner’s two-story tree as we speak. He will meet with Kris Jenner later to discuss décor for their annual Christmas Eve party. “The Kardashians are probably my favorite clients because they love the holidays, love to dream, love tradition, and they really have great style.”
Leatham emphasizes that the point of his Christmas decor is "to create magic and to let them dream." Beyond that his advice to non-Kardashians is simple: "Just stick with one color theme. The holidays are the one time of year where too much is good, but stick to one color."
