We all know that when it comes to fashion and beauty, Chanel is peak chic—so when the iconic brand hires a new beauty guru, we should pay attention (and prepare to steal some secrets).

Meet your new makeup-trend forecaster Tyron Machhausen, who is, I’ve gotta be honest, the sweetest human—but he’s also an insanely talented artist who’s ready to push us all to take some risks. It’s easy to see why people like Rihanna, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lopez, Amanda Seyfried, and Kerry Washington like having him in their face.

Being Chanel’s newly appointed celebrity makeup artist is a dream, he told me, that has come full circle after having Chanel ads plastered on the walls of his teenage bedroom in Germany. Pure proof that manifesting is a thing.

Here, more on Tyron—plus six beauty looks he created just for you.

Tyron was captivated by beauty from a young age—“I was fascinated by how makeup could completely change your face,” he says—but his career didn’t get started until he was backstage with friends at fashion shows in Milan at the age of 25. “I think everything happened by coincidence, actually,” he explains. “Going behind the scenes was where I saw the possibilities of the industry. It’s where I got to see the transformations that happen, and that’s when I decided what I wanted to do.”

Luckily, he didn’t have to wait long to get his career started. “I became the beauty director of this magazine called Quest [shortly after]we wanted to capture what was going on in art and beauty, so I was able to put my ideas to paper,” he tells me of his early years in Berlin. “After a while, Germany became too small and I was inspired internationally. I knew the place to be was New York, so I packed my bags and moved.”

Although Tyron had built his reputation in Germany, changing cities was a completely new beginning for him. He worked editorial and advertising jobs for four years, and then bam: “I got my first celebrity client, Margot Robbie. And to be able to create a bold look for her for the Oscars was amazing and it created a lot of buzz.”

So now that he’s got this big new gig, I wanted a sneak peek of the trends he’ll be setting—which, as you can see in the looks he created here, are all about color, fun, and drawing outside the lines.

“The feeling years ago was much more neutral, but the ’80s are coming back in a painterly way,” he explains. “It’s more about a fun, playful approach to makeup.”

He knows his looks might be outside your comfort zone but says the payoff is worth it: “The most intimidating thing is color, so take five intense colors—blue, green, pink, red, yellow—and have a day where you wear each of those colors. Just try something and go with it—challenge yourself. So many times I find that people say no to color, but I say let’s just try it, and they end up saying, ‘OMG, I didn’t know this would look so good on me!’”

Just remember: It all wipes off with one sweep of a cotton pad doused in a little makeup remover, so don’t be afraid to be bold and daring—even if it is for just a hot minute.
