Charity Lawson Reveals ‘Huge Shocker’ About Her Suitors on ‘The Bachelorette’

Charity Lawson was heartbroken when Zach Shallcross jilted her on last season’s The Bachelor after his visit to her Columbus, Georgia hometown.

But fans had embraced sweet Charity so completely that no one was surprised when she became the star of The Bachelorette Season 20, with a cast of 25 men.

On The Bachelor, viewers loved how Charity befriended the other women and candidly told Zach that a previous relationship had ended over her boyfriend’s infidelity.

The beautiful child and family therapist, 27, introduced him to her parents and fiercely protective brother, Nehemiah, but Zach eliminated her in fourth place. The hunky tech exec went on to get engaged to Kaity Biggar.

Charity quickly rebounded to look for her husband on The Bachelorette in what could be called a “super-sized” season!

She recently told Parade in a Zoom 1:1 that most of her suitors are “super tall,” including 6’3” pro wrestler Caleb B., and Xavier, a scientific researcher who stands a whopping 6’6”!

Why did Charity want to be The Bachelorette?

“For me, why it was so easy to say yes to being The Bachelorette was obviously because I’ve had experience coming off of last [Bachelor] season and truly understanding that going on something [is a] crazy and beautiful…journey,” Charity told Parade. “Falling in love definitely can happen and it works. It didn’t work out for me the first go-around, but having another opportunity at potentially finding my person couldn’t be more appealing for me and so I definitely was eager to jump in and give this thing another go.”

What can fans expect this season?

The Auburn University graduate said, “My Bachelorette season in general is going to be so exciting. You’re going to have these little elements of drama, but overall, it’s full of love. It’s hard to do something like this and there be no emotions at all and I’m someone who feels things very deeply and I wear my heart on my sleeve and so there will be lots of emotion for sure.”

What did Charity learn from her experience with Zach on The Bachelor?

“I learned authenticity,” she noted. “Me staying true to myself got me to a certain point and carried me pretty far and so, I really just wanted that to continue to shine through as the lead when meeting all these guys and giving them the space to be expressive of their emotions and meeting them with compassion because that’s exactly what Zach and his approach was with us [bachelorettes]. I was very aware of that and obviously, knowing what it’s like being a contestant, I wanted the same.”

Charity got cheated on during a previous relationship. How did that influence her approach on The Bachelorette?

According to the reality TV star, “I don’t think it affected me. That relationship was awhile back but it’s still significant to my history and my story. But, if anything, it prepared me to really not settle for anything that I knew was probably not best for me or not fitting for me—but also, being able to pinpoint certain behaviors that were coming up in some of the guys, inconsistencies I was able to look through and see past. It had me more prepared for what I wanted and what I was looking for.”

What was it like for Charity seeing her 25 suitors for the first time?

She told Parade, “Straight out of the limo, it was like, “What?! I’m a lucky girl.” All of them were so cute. Learning about them, what they do for a living, they have great careers and right off the bat, I see amazing personalities come through,” Charity recalled, “That whole [first] night is so chaotic. I am juggling so many conversations.”

What surprised her most about the group?

“Most of them are like, super tall!” Charity exclaimed. “I was like, this is interesting. I did not expect the majority of them to be so tall, definitely a huge shocker there. I’m so petite. I’m 5’3 ?.’ They are towering (over me).”

Charity’s brother Nehemiah plays a large part in the season premiere. What would fans be stunned to know about him?

“It’s always fascinating when people find out what my brother does for a living,” Charity said. “By day, he’s a pediatric dentist but he also has a minor in musical theater so he loves performing and doing the arts. He’s a man who’s full of personality as well. He’s charismatic. He is single so listen, we might have a Bachelor coming around the corner! We don’t know.”

How did Charity feel about him spying on her hopefuls as 'undercover brother' during the first show?

“I was a little nervous about what was going to be said. My brother just fits the role and fit right in. Having his insight I knew was going to be helpful for me as I continued on my journey,” the Bachelorette said.

How happy is Charity about the outcome of her Bachelorette experience?

“I can say that I am very, very happy with how the season turns out, for sure,” Charity told Parade.
