Charles and Diana-themed Feud series is axed
After US anthology drama Feud delved into the Hollywood rivalry between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis to critical acclaim last year, another series was commissioned – and this time, Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, would be at the centre of the show.
Created by TV mogul Ryan Murphy with Jaffe Cohen, and Michael Zam, the biographic show promised to dramatise the real events of Charles and Diana's tempestuous marriage, including secret affairs and the constant pressures from the press.
However, the chief of FX, the network producing the show, has said that the royal drama is “not moving forward at the moment”, seemingly because of problems with the series' development.
“Ultimately, we couldn’t get the material to the place we wanted,” John Landgraf told Entertainment Weekly.
Asked if the decision was due to a collision with Netflix series The Crown, which will examine the budding relationship between Charles and Diana in its forthcoming third season, Landgraf said no. Feud, he said, offered “a very different approach” to this material – mostly because it would have been told from Diana's perspective: from “the point of view of somebody coming into that family, à la Meghan Markle.”
