'Chicago P.D.' Star Sophia Bush Just Landed a Major New Role
Actress Sophia Bush just landed a major part on a new CBS medical drama.
The Chicago P.D. alum was cast as the lead in Good Sam, which will be her first starring role since leaving the crime drama in 2017.
Sophia Bush is trading in her police badge for a white coat.
The former Chicago P.D. star was just cast in an upcoming medical drama on CBS and her new role sounds unlike any character she has played before. According to Deadline, Good Sam focuses on the personal and professional struggles of a "talented yet stifled heart surgeon" named Sam.
The young doctor works in the same hospital as her arrogant and hard-to-please father, Dr. Paul "Griff" Griffith (Jason Isaacs), a genius cardiothoracic surgeon who refuses to acknowledge his daughter's talent. Sam was stuck living in Griff's shadow until he unexpectedly fell into a coma for several months, giving her the opportunity to take over as the Chief of Surgery.
When he eventually wakes up and wants to continue working, it falls on Sam to supervise her dad—which ends up being more difficult for both of them than the other demands of their high-pressure jobs.
The pilot episode was written by Jane the Virgin's executive producer, Katie Wech, who will work on the show alongside Jane creators Jennie Snyder Urman and Joanna Klein. If Good Sam gets a series order, it will be Sophia's first leading role since she left Chicago P.D. in 2017.
The actress confirmed the news of her latest gig on Instagram.
"Been up to some things ?? #GoodSam," she wrote alongside a screenshot of an article about the pilot.
Fingers crossed that Sophia will be back on our television screens soon!
