Chris Pratt Once Paid $3,000 to Be in a Movie
Chris Pratt wasn't always the Hollywood superstar we know and love today. In fact, he used to be homeless, living in a tent while in between jobs in Hawaii. But with a lot of hard work - plus a whole lot of luck - Pratt was able to turn a potentially disastrous life situation into a goldmine.
From Avengers: Infinity War to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it feels like Pratt has a new blockbuster out every damn month. And that can only mean one thing: He's now rich as hell.
Here's everything we know about Chris Pratt's net worth.
Chris Pratt's acting career happened by accident.
While living in Hawaii and working odd jobs, Pratt was a fairly happy guy.
"It’s a pretty awesome place to be homeless," Pratt told The Independent in 2014. "We just drank and smoked weed and worked minimal hours, just enough to cover gas, food, and fishing supplies."
In a bizarre stroke of luck, he was discovered while waiting tables at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Maui. Actress and director Rae Dawn Chong walked in the door and changed his life by casting him in the 2000 short film Cursed Part 3.
After filming wrapped, Pratt stayed in California and started auditioning. He scored roles on Everwood and The O.C., among other shows, and eventually made it big as the lovable goofball Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation.
Chris Pratt didn't make a dime for his first movie. In fact, he paid to be in it.
Before Pratt made it big, he auditioned for a role in Amy Sedaris’ 2003 film, Strangers with Candy. And as he shared with Stephen Colbert some years later, he actually lost money being in that film.
"Did you know that movie cost me $3,000 to be in? This is a testament to how much we love doing what we do that we would pay to do it," Pratt said, adding that in order to stay on budget, the film was only open to actors living in New York City. So, he did the only reasonable thing he could think to do: pay for his flight, pretend to be a local, and put himself up in a hotel.
"I was hungry. I wanted the role," he said.
Chris Pratt made $15 million in 2015.
A newcomer to Forbes' list of the highest-paid actors, Pratt ranked 33rd, behind Marvel pal Chris Evans. Believe it or not, Forbes estimates that Pratt made less than $10 million for the first Jurassic World.
Chris Pratt earned $26 million in 2016.
Pratt was #16 on Forbes' ranking of the highest-paid actors in 2016 - not to mention the youngest person to make the list. According to the outlet, he got a $12 million paycheck upfront for Passengers, not to mention a nice chunk of change for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Chris Pratt's net worth is an estimated $40 million.
With his star still on the rise, Pratt has already created a hefty bank account for himself. According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Pratt is worth an estimated $ 40 million. That's a dinosaur-sized fortune, if you ask us.
